Specialized Multidisciplinary Clinics
Brown Cancer Center patients receive team focused care through multidisciplinary clinics treating breast, gastrointestinal, genito-urinary, gynecologic oncology, lung, melanoma, and head and neck cancers. The center is also home to the region's only Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.
Each clinic area has been renovated for patient comfort and privacy and has been designed to encourage collaboration among specialists from a wide variety of disciplines. Patients get the advantages of a team of experts working together to provide the most advanced, comprehensive care.
Chemotherapy Infusion Unit
Patients requiring chemotherapy now have a brighter and more spacious area in which to receive their treatment. With 16 treatment stations, four private beds, and a high nurse-to-patient ratio, we are well equipped to treat our patients efficiently and effectively. Natural light beams in through a wide expanse of windows, promoting comfort and healing.
Radiation Oncology
The Brown Cancer Center’s nearly $15 million renovation included replacement of all radiation treatment and diagnostic equipment with state-of-the art machines, which make the Brown Cancer Center the most advanced radiation treatment center in the region. Our significant equipment investment in the most advanced treatment available represents our dedication to deliver the treatment in the most effective way, while simultaneously working to minimize the potential side effects and the damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.

The Radiation Oncology Department includes five linear accelerators that are used in treatment plans, permitting greater speed and accuracy. It also has the region’s first TomoTherapy® Hi·Art® treatment system, the first TrilogyTM linear accelerator and the first intra-operative radiotherapy unit, the Mobetron. The center is now one of only a few in the region offering High Dose Rate treatments for gynecologic cancers. Other advanced equipment includes the Mammosite RTS for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer, and the Seimens SOMATOM Sensation 64-slice CT scanner for the highest quality images possible.
Breast Care Center
The Breast Care Center, which provides mammography screening services, has recently undergone a total renovation and replacement of equipment. More than $1 million has been spent to convert the center to 100% Hologic digital technology providing the latest in mammography technology to our physicians in the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic Team. A totally digital environment means that our radiologists can more clearly identify suspicious tumors, hopefully catching breast cancer in its earliest stages.
Mint Jubilee Cancer Resource Center
Located on the first floor and in the heart of the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, the Mint Jubilee Cancer Resource Center provides emotional healing for our patients, completing our spectrum of multidisciplinary cancer care. The calm, soothing and comfortable atmosphere provides the perfect environment for support groups and educational sessions for patients and their families. The overwhelming success of the Mint Jubilee Cancer Resource Center is why it went from two to six rooms and can now offer more classes and services, like cooking demonstrations and art therapy.
Inpatient Services
While outpatient cancer clinics and services are provided at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, inpatient treatment services are provided in University Hospital’s two dedicated oncology units.
Both units feature specially trained oncology nursing, highest-level filtration, limited general access, and central monitoring. In addition, its proximity to the Brown Cancer Center gives attending physicians quick and frequent
access to their patients.
The Blood and Marrow Transplantation program adult inpatient unit is an 18-bed HEPA-filtered, positive pressure nursing unit. All beds are designed for critical care patients. Physicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and weekends. Each room is private and equipped with a restroom and sleeping area for family members. For extended admissions, patients and their families can take of a washer/dryer.
