Gynecologic Oncology: Your Visit

General Information

Location
Our office is located on the third floor of the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, 529 S. Jackson Street in Louisville. For directions to the Center, please refer to the pocket of your patient information packet or you may call our office at 502.629.3400.

Appointments
To ensure you have an appointment that is most convenient for you, please call as early as possible to schedule your appointment (including follow-up appointments). If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please notify our office as soon as possible (at least 24 hours in advance), giving your time and date of appointment.

Your Visit

Your Initial Visit
During your initial visit, you will meet with one of our physicians and discuss the reason for your referral, as well as your gynecologic history. It is crucial you arrange to have all pertinent medical records from your referring physician forwarded to our office in time for your initial meeting with our physicians. Additionally, we may require actual films from any related diagnostic procedure you may have had in the past, as well as pathology slides and their related reports. You most likely will have a pelvic examination during your initial visit. Because you are a new patient, your physician first will meet with you, then most likely perform a physical exam, and then meet with you again after the exam to discuss all findings.

Patient Registration
When you arrive at the Brown Cancer Center, check in at the Registration Desk. Our friendly staff will give you directions to where you need to go after you register.

If another physician has referred you to our office, we will assume you want that physician to receive a report of our findings, treatments and/or recommendations. Unless otherwise requested, we’ll promptly forward such reports following your visits. Please be assured that we keep your medical records strictly confidential and will not disclose them without your permission.

What to bring
Please bring your insurance cards, co-payments (if applicable), your new patient sheet in this packet (filled out as best as possible), and any other items you think may apply to your visit. In addition, please contact our office at 502.629.3400 prior to your appointment to determine what else you may need to bring.

Insurance
As a professional medical care provider, University OB/Gyn and Associates does not accept the responsibility of negotiating claims with insurance companies or other persons. The patient is responsible to University OB/Gyn and Associates for payment of accounts within a reasonable time, regardless of the status of a claim. In circumstances where a claim is pending or when treatment will be for an extended period of time, we recommend arranging a payment plan.

Resources
Cancer affects the individual and the whole family. There are several community and national resources that offer support services designed to address the emotional, physical and spiritual needs that gynecologic cancer patients experience during and after treatment. These resources include American Cancer Society, Kentucky Cancer Program, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center Mint Jubilee Resource Center, and many more. For more information about these resources, ask our medical staff.

For more information, call the Cancer Hotline at 502.562.4158 or 866.530.5516.
